Eco-Friendly Pest Control That’s Safe For Your Home
You probably don’t want pests in your home. It doesn’t matter whether it’s relatively harmless ants or more terrifying termites and rodents, they are not welcome in your house. There is a good reason for this. Pests don’t contribute to the rent, they can damage the house, and they can carry diseases.
In short, you’ll want to get rid of any pests. But, in modern times, people are increasingly aware of the damage that can be done to the planet through our actions. That’s why an increasing number of people are looking for environmentally friendly ways of doing things. Fortunately, you can adopt eco-friendly pest control methods.
Contact The Experts
The first step on your journey should be the local pest control experts. They have the knowledge and equipment to inspect your home for issues. They can also offer advice on how to prevent pests from getting into your yard or your home. This is the best starting point as prevention is always better than cure. Alongside this, the experts will verify that you don’t have any current pest issues.
Use Essential Oils
Most pests don’t like strong natural aromas. This includes peppermint, lavender, citronella, and even eucalyptus. This is good as you can use these essential oils to create a repellent.
Simply add one teaspoon of essential oils to a cup of water and a quarter cup of vinegar. Put the contents in a spray bottle and then you can use this when cleaning your home. It’s especially useful when cleaning floors and entry points, such as window sills. The aroma keeps the pests away and it’s completely natural.
Create A Natural Fertilizer
Fertilizer is great for your garden. It helps all your plants flourish but, flourishing plants can attract pests. Instead of ditching plants, use natural fertilizer. That means sprinkling coffee grounds and cutting up the citrus peel. The plants will appreciate it, but the pests won’t and are likely to disappear.
Boric Acid
Boric acid has been in existence for many years. It is effective at preventing pest entry but it is also dangerous to some pets. Make sure you position it around all entry points but keep your pets away from it. The acid destroys the exoskeleton of pests, effectively killing them.
Predators
Another great way to eliminate pests before they even get to your home is to look at what predators eat the pest you’re concerned about. In many cases, birds are the best predators of insects. Simply create the right conditions to attract the birds and let them eliminate the pest problem for you.
Humane Trapping
If you have pests and want to get rid of them without killing them then you need to create a humane trap. That’s one that captures the pest without killing it. You’ll then be able to verify the pest you’re dealing with and release it a long way from your home. Providing other houses in your vicinity are appealing it will try its luck there instead.
