How Voice Search Keywords Are Changing the Digital Landscape
The hectic lives we live today have turned our free time into luxury we try to make the most of it, every chance we get. If we can avoid typing stuff out, we do. Why would we type when we can just say it to our phones? This is why voice search is becoming an increasingly used method of searching. The more you know: every week, about 30% of searches are done by voice!
A Typical Tuesday
After a busy day at work, all we want to do is go home, grab a drink from the fridge, and put our feet up. When we realize there’s nothing to eat, we don’t throw a big fuss. That’s not a problem in today’s world we can order in.
So now we ask Alexa: “What’s the best restaurant in our area that delivers?” she immediately reads the name of a restaurant. If the menu sounds good, we go ahead and place an order!
Is this the restaurant without a street address registered on Google? Probably not. So, among other things we will be mentioning, this example shows how voice search is changing the digital landscape.
Keeping It Natural Is The KEY(WORD)
The rise of voice search makes it necessary for businesses to adapt to the way customers are searching the web. People prefer to ask their virtual assistants questions that are phrased as full sentences. These are the questions containing interrogative pronouns – who, why, what, where, when, and how. And that’s why websites must contain the keywords answering these questions.
People talk to their virtual assistant as if it’s an all-knowing human, their advisor. Say you have a restaurant called John’s Pizza. “What vegan options are available at John’s Pizza?” is the question that will most likely be asked if a person is interested in vegan options at your restaurant.
Adding FAǪ sections on business websites also helps optimize them for voice search. With more than enough tutorials, blog posts, and articles about website optimization, the needed adaptation is not difficult to achieve.
Schema? I Hardly Know Her
Simply put: Google should know businesses better than it does now!
Businesses with key information in their website’s HTML code are more likely to “pop up” on the first page of search results. Key information includes their address, working hours, menu, prices, availability, etc. This means that the names of those businesses are more likely to be read out loud by our loyal virtual assistants!
Snip It
Bloggers aren’t spared either! Optimizing your website even without a physical business is a way to go. We’ve all seen a Google snippet. It’s a short text that appears at the very top of our search. When we use voice search, that text is usually what the virtual assistant reads first. If your website appears in this part of the search, you can already assume that it will be read by a large number of people.
Keywords play the most important role here as well. Putting a specific answer to a question in the subheading of your blogpost, helps your blog be seen!
A Best Friend First, A Customer Second
Voice search is changing the digital landscape by doing businesses a huge favor. Making businesses get to know their customers better (so they can optimize their website) is also creating a stronger connection between them and the customer. Knowing who you’re selling to is very important in business. Only now, besides their age, place of residence, or lifestyle, businesses need to figure out the way their customers ask questions.
No need to overthink it! If businesses already know their regular customers, they can also understand the perspective of others. What are they most likely to ask? What DO they ask most often? If it’s a restaurant Is it pet-friendly? If it’s an auto repair shop Do you have Toyota parts?
It’s not as difficult as it sounds. By using tools such as HubSpot, Keywords Everywhere, and Google Keyword Planner, businesses can create useful keywords based on knowing their customers.
To Sum It Up – Keep Up
Voice search is becoming the preferred method of searching today. If we had a real assistant next to us, we wouldn’t communicate via Post-it notes; we’d talk to them! We need to keep up to stay ahead. By using the available tools and resources, businesses can get closer to the assistant. And when the assistant can see them better, only then can it spread the word!
