Short Life Lessons from Influencer Dr. Ketam Hamdan
Dr. Ketam Hamdan, Ph.D., is a licensed trauma therapist and brain science expert passionate about helping people become more self-aware of the internal issues that hurt them from living happy life. She has a gift for understanding what clients need and teaching people about their blind spots that they are rarely aware of. Her extended specialty is in personal development and neuroscience. As a mental health influencer and inspirational figure, she preaches lessons for ultimate contentment and happiness in life.
Below are 4 short life lessons that the brain health doctor would love to share with you:
You have permission to NOT be thankful all the time
Dr. Hamdan preaches to her followers to normalize not being thankful for their life’s challenges. We must eradicate the expectation of feeling grateful all the time from our lives in order to validate the pain and normalize feeling unhappy. She says, “Let’s not preach: be thankful, or you have it better than others.” She believes that when we validate our challenges, we make room to be alive because we are not spending our time suppressing our pain.
Time does NOT heal all wounds
Contrary to popular belief, Dr. Hamdan believes that time does not heal all wounds until you face the pain and learn to process it. She says that denying what hurt you or not facing the trauma holds you back from recovery and living the life you crave. You are focused on holding onto the pain and numbing it, which is challenging and draining. You can’t do both, hold the pain, suppress your emotions or feelings, and show up to life alive dreaming and hoping for a better future.
Your thoughts are NOT facts
Dr. Hamdan says to pay attention to your thoughts, they are often not true. You need to take your thoughts to court. She recommends asking yourself, “Are they 1000% true?”, “What is the supporting evidence for these thoughts?” Your thoughts are mental events that pop up in your head and are often influenced by something that happened and your mood.”
So just because thoughts are existing or are present, does not mean they are true.” To really be able to determine if it really is true or not is like anything else. We need to be able to gather facts, determine what parts are more emotionally drawn, what thoughts or ideas might be developing more from opinion, and not have clear supporting evidence.
No one is coming to rescue you.
According to the brain health doctor, there are far too many people waiting for others to rescue them and they do nothing to get better or change their life. There is no one coming to save you, and at the end of the day, it is only you who can rescue you and be your own leader. Dr. Hamdan says, “Stop waiting for someone to come and do the work for you. It is up to you and only you to push yourself and live the life you dream of. No one is coming to rescue you.
No one is coming to push you to exercise, to apply for that job, to do the things you always dreamed of. Everything you need to heal is inside of you, not outside of you.” She guides her clients and followers to honor themselves, learn about their internal world, and commit to changing their lives for the better. Taking baby steps is OK, as long as it is heading forward.
